The new Alta Velocità (high-speed) Eurostar Italia trains have been designed and built to provide more space, more convenience and lots of new high-tech facilities and services, to ensure happy, safe and quiet journeys. With Eurostar Italia Alta Velocità you can organize all aspects of your journey according to your habits and style, in ever more comfortable and innovative ways.
Booking on board the AV trains is free and always at the same time as ticket issuance.
Tickets are valid only for the day and train booked (you can book and buy tickets up until two months before departure). It is not necessary to stamp the tickets before departure.
Limited to the trains using ETR 500 carriages, if places are all full and the customer nevertheless needs to leave, tickets may be issued for the train and date requested, without guarantee of a place, for a set number or places per carriage. Please note that no provision is made for this type of ticket to be issued at the Flexi, Amica and Familia fares.
If found travelling without a ticket, in addition to the ticket price, passengers must pay a fine of 50 euro if payment is made on board or upon arrival of the train. The amount payable doubles if payment is made within 15 days, and becomes 200 euro if made after that term.
The fine is not due if departure was from stations at which both the ticket office and the automatic ticket distributors are not operational. The fine is not due if you depart from stations where the ticketing service is not operating; travellers must however notify the on-board personnel in advance.

MINI-LOUNGES
If you want occupy a seat in the mini-lounges found on the AV trains using ETR 500 carriages, you must pay a surcharge of €10 on top of the ticket at the Standard or Flexi fares.
TRAVELCARD HOLDERS
Travellers holding an Intercity travelcard or an ordinary Travelcard at fare 21 or Regional or Regional with cross-regional application (AS 40) and an Admission Card for Intercity trains at full price who want to use the Eurostar Italia AV Trains, must buy of an admission ticket including seat booking costing 3 euro for each individual journey.
Provision is made for admission fees without guarantee of place only on the Rome-Naples section. Bookings with no guarantee of seat can only be made at the station ticket points and the approved travel agencies.
Travelcard holders to the IC trains can also buy a Bookings Booklet ("carnet") AV/ES*/ES*city (costing €31 in First Class and €20 in Second for all the routes except for those including the section Rome-Naples) valid for 20 bookings on AV or ES* or ES*city trains on the chosen section to use within six months from the date indicated by the customer as the start of Booklet validity.
Only for the routes that include the Rome - Naples section in both directions, you can buy a Bookings Booklet ("carnet") costing €31 in First Class and €20 in Second, valid for 20 bookings only for Eurostar trains, or a Bookings Booklet ("carnet") (costing 40 euro for both classes on the sections including the Rome - Naples section) valid for 20 bookings on both the AV- and ES* trains.
Only on the AV trains for the services taking in the Rome-Naples section in both directions, holders of this lat €60 Carnet can book trains for the dates requested without a place booking. Bookings without guarantee of place can only be made at the station ticket points and approved travel agencies.
The validity start date cannot be longer than 7 days after the issue date. The booklet is personal and cannot be replaced or refunded. The change of each booking is allowed free twice until the booked train's departure and only once until 3 hours after the train's departure. The new booking can be made also for a train of different category provided it is among those provided for by booklet and must in any case refer to journeys made within the booklet's validity. On board, the booklet must be shown together with the Travelcard and the seat booking.
Travelcard holders can also buy a Card booklet of ES* admission rights made up of 20 vouchers at the reduced price of 2,00 euro in First class and 1 euro in Second. This Booklet and the single tickets within are not refundable for any reason.
The individual tickets may be replaced before departure with an admission ticket for Travel/Discount Card holders with seat reservation. If holders are not interested in having a certain seat, they can access the train without replacing the Booklet ("Carnet") receipt but they must however stamp it before boarding. The receipt expires on the train's arrival at the destination station. The booklet It is NOT allowed on the sections that include the Rome - Naples section in both directions.
Travelcards ordinary/regional are not valid which are bought on this site, not even if used with the IC admission card and the tickets/booklets for AV trains nor with any Admission Cards at reduced prices or IC Pass.
IC Travelcard holders with Bookings Booklet ("carnet") for AV trains who board trains of other categories (ES*or ES* City), must pay, in the terms allowed, the amount of the ticket for the train used plus an 8 euro surcharge. With the ETR 450, 500, 460 and 480 trains you can comfortably and quickly reach Italy's most important cities. In First Class you will be offered daily papers in the morning and a welcome gadget (except for some lines where special reductions are applied).
On all trains you will find a suitable catering service with mini-bar trolley or in the restaurant car, with the possibility of booking your meal with discount when buying your ticket.

This Booklet and the single tickets within are not refundable.

The Eurostar City Italia service offers customers a service comparable to that of ES* but it reaches a more widespread area to serve intermediate districts and with an enhanced value for money.
Booking on board the Eurostar City Italia trains is free and always at the same time as ticket issuance.

For all types, the carnet can be bought 7 days in advance of the date they become valid. The carnet is nominal, strictly personal and cannot be replace or refunded. Booking changes are allowed twice (2x) for free up until the booked train's departure and only once (1x) within the 3 hours following the booked train's departure. The new booking can also be made for a different category train provided it comes within those provided for by the carnet. It must however in all cases refer to a journey that is to be made within the time validity of the carnet. When travelling on board, passengers are obliged to show inspection personnel their carnet, travel card and seat/place booking.

The service is provided on the Roma T.ni - Milano C.le section with stop at Bologna C.le in both directions.

TRAVELCARD HOLDERS
Travellers with an ordinary Travelcard at fare 21, Regional or Regional with cross-regional application who want to use a Tbiz train must buy, for each journey, the TO/TBiz service change at full price. Travellers with an Intercity travelcards or an ordinary Travelcard at fare 21 Regional or Regional with cross-regional application and an Admission Card for Intercity trains at full price who want to use the Tbiz train must buy, for each journey, the IC/TBiz service change at full price. On the Tbiz Trains, ordinary Travelcards at fare 21, or regional or regional with cross-regional application bought on this site are not allowed, not even if used with the IC admission card, including that at reduced prices or, where provided for, with the IC PASS.
The IC Plus trains offer comfortable armchair seats with innovative fabrics and colours, a functional lighting system, capacious rubbish containers (with division by refuse type), separate men's/women's bathrooms designed for greatest comfort, seats equipped with power sockets for computers and mobile phones in 1st class with convenient desks for working and reading.
On the Intercity Plus trains, booking (which is already including in the price) requires a payment of 1 euro for journeys up to 300 km and 2 euro for longer journeys. Bookings can be made up until the train's departure.

Travellers holding an Intercity travelcard, or an ordinary Travelcard at fare 21, or Regional or Regional with cross-regional application plus an Admission Card for Intercity trains, who want to use the IC Plus trains, can travel on the train without booking but without the right to a seat if they are not interested in having a certain place. Otherwise they must obtain a place booking, which costs 1 euro up to 300 km and 2 euro for longer distances.
The Travelcard holders mentioned above can also buy an IC Plus bookings booklet for € 15 for both first and second class, valid for 20 bookings for IC Plus on the chosen section and to use within six months from the date indicated by the customer as the start of Booklet validity. The validity start date cannot be longer than. The booklet is personal and cannot be replaced or refunded. The change of each individual booking is allowed free of charge twice until the booked train's departure and only once within 3 hours after the booked train's departure. The new booking must however be for a journey to be made within the booklet's validity. On board, the booklet must be shown together with the Travelcard and the seat booking.
Not valid are ordinary Travelcards at fare 21, regional or Regional with cross-regional application bought on this site, not even if used with the admission card for IC trains, including the one at reduced prices or, where provided for, with the IC PASS.
These offer the possibility of quality services at reasonable prices also to towns that are not provincial capitals. The catering service is found on almost all the trains.

TRAVELCARD HOLDERS
Travellers can use the IC trains if they have Travelcards for IC trains or ordinary Travelcards at 21 fare, Regional or Regional with cross-regional application and the admission card to the IC trains. Different conditions apply for accessing the trains in certain regions and for certain trains.
Ordinary travelcards are not valid at fare 21, regional or Regional with cross-regional application bought on this site, even if used with the admission card for IC trains, including the one at reduced prices or, where provision is made, with the IC PASS.
These are Intercity trains equipped also with some WL and couchette carriages. They travel by night and allow travel with quality trains on the main routes of Italy's railway system.

ICN trains are accessible to holders of Travelcards for IC trains, of ordinary or regional Travelcards and of IC trains admission cards. Different conditions apply for accessing the trains in certain regions and for certain trains.
Ordinary/regional Travelcards are not valid which are bought on this site not even if they are used with the admission card for IC trains, including the one at reduced price or with the IC PASS where allowed.
This is the ordinary medium- and long distance travel solution. It mostly refers to long- and very-long-distance night trains that are often made up of Couchette and Wagon Lit carriages.
Ticket validity
Within 2 months from purchase, you can use tickets for Express train with seat. Before boarding you must remember to stamp your ticket. The time validity (of 6/24 hours depending on the journey length) begins starting from the stamping time.

TRAVELCARD HOLDERS
Travellers with ordinary or regional travel cards bought at the station or travel agency can access the Espressi (Express) Trains.
Travelcards ordinary/regional bought on this site are not valid.
If, travelling by night, you also want to rest comfortably, you can choose among these different options:
- ordinary 2nd class couchettes with 4 or 6 places;
- 2nd class comfort carriages with large 4-place compartments;
- 1st class Wagon Lits, with single bed, special single and double
- 2nd class Wagon Lits with tourist class bed place with 2 or 3 places;
- Excelsior single or double cabin, or double suite: all cabins have washroom and shower. At the carriage end is
- Excelsior E4 Cabin single, double, triple or quadruple: all cabins have en suite toilet and shower
a reception with coffee bar service.
Women travelling on their own can book a place in a compartment for ladies only.
To do this, you must buy one ticket with place reservation at the same time, at the fare of the travel solution desired.
Tickets for couchette or WL services are valid for using the couchette and WL place for the full night-time journey as well as for using the seat for the sections before and after the overnight service.
To ensure the rest and security of customers, it is not possible as a rule to buy tickets for routes that involve getting on or off from 1 am to 5 am. This possibility is however granted when booking a whole couchette or WL compartment. The official timetable "In Treno - By train" indicates the last boarding station allowed.
Ticket validity
Tickets are valid for the day and train booked on.
If found travelling without a ticket, in addition to the ticket price, passengers must pay a fine of 50 euro if payment is made on board or upon train arrival. The amount payable doubles if payment is made within 15 days and becomes 200 euro if made after such term. The fine is not payable in the event of departure from stations at which both the ticket desk and self-service teller are either not present or not operative; travellers must however notify the on-board personnel as soon as possible

This is a higher fare than the standard one but allows greater flexibility in using tickets.
Holders of 1st class tickets can access the EuroStar* Club lounges (without right to use the services).

AMICA OFFER
The Amica offer is the solution with the advantage of booking in advance. It has limited places, which vary according to the day, train and class. The Amica offer allows a discount of 20% off purchases made until midnight on the day before train departure. The minimum price is 10 euro.
It is not allowed for the Excelsior and Excelsior E4 cabins.

Together with the Express trains, these make up Trenitalia's ordinary service offer. They mostly refer to trains operating in the Regions. The Regional trains normally serve routes of less than 100 km, with a high frequency of stops and are concentrated in the rush hours of commuter traffic. On the Regional trains it is not possible to book places for individual journeys. On most trains, as identified by an appropriate pictogram in the timetable and within the limits of space available, you can take your bicycle with you. You can buy the bicycle supplement, valid for 24 hrs, also at the Self service tellers and the resellers equipped with automatic issuing facilities.
Ticket validity
You can use tickets for regional trains within 2 months from purchase. If you have bought a ticket valid according to distance or a self-adhesive voucher, there are no limits of use.
Before boarding you must remember to stamp your ticket. From stamping the time validity starts, which depends on the journey length. Self-adhesive voucher tickets must be stamped in each its part.
Regional tickets bought on-line are valid for 4 hours and do not need to be stamped.
Ticket changes
Within two months from purchase, if you must change your journey's route, class or train category, you can change your ticket. To change your ticket, you will be charged 20% of the returned ticket up to a maximum of 3 euro. It is not instead allowed to replace the "distance" tickets or the self-adhesive voucher ones, nor those bought on this site and valid only for those trains.
It is not possible to change regional tickets bought on-line.
Refunds
If you do not manage to leave at all, you can request, before expiry, a ticket refund for regional trains, which will be granted with a deduction charge of 20%. Alternatively you can request a bonus voucher for the full amount of the ticket.
No refunds or bonus vouchers are granted for journey cancellation if, after the charges, the amount remaining is less than or equal to 8.00 euro. It is not possible to obtain refunds of the tickets bought on this site and valid only for those trains.
It is not possible to obtain refunds of regional tickets bought on-line or of self-adhesive voucher-type ones.

To use the day-time Riviera trains on the internal Trenitalia sections, you must buy a full-price Intercity Plus ticket including seat reservation.
To use the Riviera night trains on the internal Trenitalia sections, you must buy:
- For seats, a ticket at the ICN tariff (booking optional)
- For couchettes or beds, a full-price ICN ticket inclusive of seat reservation.
These trains are managed by the Italo-French companies "Artesia s.a.s." with night connections between Italy and France on the sections of Venice-Paris, Rome-Florence-Paris and Milan-Paris and back. Daytime services instead are on the sections of Milan-Turin-Paris and Milan-Turin-Lyons.
To use these trains you must buy tickets at the normal price, including place booking, which differ according to type of customer and class.
To use the day-time Artesia trains on Trenitalia's Italian sections, you must buy a full-price Intercity Plus ticket including seat reservation.
These trains are managed by the Italo-Swiss company Cisalpino AG, with connections between Italy and Switzerland.
To use these trains on the international sections you must buy a normal-price ticket, inclusive of seat reservation, according to customer type, journey class and type of carriage.
You can also travel with the Eurail and Inter Rail passes by buying a ticket at the Global Pass fare for Cisalpino trains, which are available for both 1st and 2nd Class.
To use these trains on the Trenitalia Italy sections, you must buy a full-price Cisalpino ticket including seat reservation.
Holders of Travelcards valid for the Intercity trains can travel by Cisalpino at the conditions applied to the IC Plus trains on the EC-classified trains, and at the conditions applied for the ESCity trains to travel on the CIS-classified trains.
These trains connect Italy with Austria and the Czech Republic.

To use the day-time Allegro trains and the carriages with seats on the night trains on the Trenitalia Italy sections, you must buy a full-price Intercity Plus ticket including seat reservation.

To use the day-time trains on the Trenitalia Italy sections, you must buy a ticket at the Intercity fare with optional seat booking and charged for separately. Again for the internal journey sections, on the carriages with seats on the Night Trains, you must buy a ticket at the Intercity fare. Place booking is not possible.

These trains are night- and day-time ones connecting Italy with Slovenia, Croatia,Serbia, Hungary and Romania.

To use the day-time trains and carriages with seats on the night trains on the Trenitalia Italy sections, you must buy a full-price Intercity Plus ticket including place reservation.
This train is run by the company Elipsos and is made up of sleeper carriages and carriages with reclining armchairs operating along the Milan-Turin-Barcelona route. To use it, you must buy tickets at the normal prices, which differ according to type of customers and for category of place.
These are international night trains with carriages with air conditioning or ventilation systems installed. If you travel in a sleeper carriage, on most of these trains you can use a packet of services that varies according to train. This packet usually includes mineral water, breakfast, toiletry items and newspaper. If you use a couchettes car, you can use a reduced packet of services with respect to that of the Sleeper Carriages, again varying according to category occupied. To travel on these trains you must have a normal-price ticket for the accommodation requested and section to travel. This price includes the "packet of services" offered on board. On some of these trains are carriages with second class seats, which are also available for domestic travellers. In this case passengers must have a full-price ticket for IC Plus trains.

These are international day-time quality trains with air conditioning. They connect Italy with some of Europe's important cities. All these trains provide a catering service. To travel on these trains, you must have a valid normal-price ticket for the class occupied and section to travel.
To use these trains as a domestic (Italy) traveller, you must have a ticket for IC Plus trains.

To travel on the Wagon Lits and Couchettes of the international trains, you have a normal-price ticket valid for the class requested and the section to travel.
Provision is made for these types of overnight accommodation:
- single bed and special single
- double- and tourist-class bed place with 2 or 3 places
- couchettes with 4 or 6 places.
Women travelling alone can book their place in a compartment for ladies only.
Tickets at normal prices are valid for the day and train booked and must not be validated before departure.
