Most trains - and above all the Regional, Direct and Inter-regional ones, are used by commuters for reasons of business and study.

In addition to the railway timetables, the tickets of other companies, those for car-parks and the TIM "Ricaricards" (mobile 'top-ups'), on sale at some Trenitalia ticket desks,you can top up mobile phones using the self-service tellers in the stations marked as being for "Trasporto Regionale" (regional transport).

The initiative is the outcome of an broadening of the agreement between Trenitalia and TIM, whereby customers can already buy Ricaricards of from 10- to 55-euro at the ticket desks.

It's easy to buy phone top-ups from the self-service machines, like those for ticket issuance: simply follow the indications on the display, as with the phone top-ups carried made at Bancomats: type in the complete phone number, confirmation, and selection of the top-up amount.

The payment formalities are the same as those for train tickets, except for the prepaid Trenitalia cards, which are cannot be used for tax deduction purposes. At the end, the self-service teller will issue a receipt, which you must keep until your mobile has been credited with the traffic paid for. As with tickets, also top-ups allow for a maximum amount of change in cash.
For change of higher value, the machine issues a credit receipt, which can be cashed at any Trenitalia ticket desk. At every stage of the top-up procedure you can always cancel the operation and quit from the program.
Even if the procedures continue and by mistake you realized when having to pay that you do not have enough money, there is no problem: the machine will issue a credit receipt for the amount already paid in which can be cashed in at any Trenitalia ticket desk.
