Operative General Management - Logistics

The Operative General Management Logistics hauls some 82 million tonnes of freight every year across a vast network of lines linking Italy to Europe's main business centres, and its combined transport share - accounting for about 50% of total Cargo traffic - is Europe's largest.

The Division also focused on technological innovation to further strengthen its capacity to react promptly to market demand. It has stepped up the traction capacity of its locomotives and increased the load capacity of certain types of wagons such as those dedicated to the transport of white goods, investing heavily in information systems to improve the service performance and to optimise production processes and customer relations.

Like the other structures of Trenitalia, the Division has also stepped up its commitment to greater quality. The drafting of the 'Quality Programme' has made it possible to trigger a virtuous circle of constant improvements through the Services Charter and the certification process. One major success was achieved in December 2002 when the Quality Management System for the marketing of rail freight transport through its five national 'business units' were awarded UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 certification from the SGS Certification Institute.

At the international level, Operative General Management Logistics' strategy has enabled it to conclude major partnership agreements with the new companies that are now joining the market.
